how does hunger affect children and adults?
Hunger is one of the main problems humans are facing in the world, and out of this conflict children are the most affected. For example, World Food Programme states, “Some 795 million people in the world do not have enough food to lead a healthy active life. That's about one in nine people on earth,” (WFP, 1). This proves that a lot of people around the world don’t have sufficient food to get proper nutrition which can lead to not having a healthy life and maybe having health deficiencies in the future. Most of the people located in Africa or in the Middle East are discriminated because of hunger and their lack of monetary resources, that’s why those people cannot afford a better quality food. Most of them just go there walking and finding trash to eat. World Food Programme also states, “Poor nutrition causes nearly half (45%) of deaths in children under five - 3.1 million children each year,” (WFP, 1). This proves that this new tendency affects mostly children up to the point that it can lead to their death, making them more vulnerable to the problem. Malnutrition could make these children have concentration or intellectual problems that would probably affect them in the future making them have less chances of success or survival. Children that don’t get a proper nutrition are more vulnerable to having a weak immune system which can lead to eventually death. For example, The Issue states: “When the body consistently does not get the required energy and nutrients it needs each day, it breaks down. This means a decrease in mental and physical activities and ability to fight off illness. It means a lower ability to work, to play and TO LIVE,” (The Issue, 1) .This proves that because of the lack of nutrients, children's’ immune system can lower and therefore they are more vulnerable to diseases and death. Still, hunger can affect grown people in similar ways, but not with the same force. |
