Immigration solutions
“over 3 million have fled to Syria's immediate neighbours Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq. 6.5 million are internally displaced within Syria. Meanwhile, under 150,000 Syrians have declared asylum in the European Union, while member states have pledged to resettle a further 33,000 Syrians. The vast majority of these resettlement spots – 28,500 or 85% – are pledged by Germany”

How can Syrians and organizations help stop the syrian civil war?

One possible solution for the ongoing Syrian armed conflict is for the ISIS and the Syrian government to let the citizens choose their leader. The MUN Security Council has agreed upon a resolution that says as following, “strongly condemn[ed] the continued grave and systematic human rights violations by the Syrian authorities, such as arbitrary executions, excessive use of force and the killing and persecution of protesters and human rights defenders. The resolution also demands the removal of tanks from the streets, an end to attacks on civilians and calls for President Assad to allow observers into the country," (Security Council, 2012). This attests that the Security Council has decided that the civil war has been denying various rights to the Syrians. Article 21 of the Human Rights states that, “Everyone has the right to take part in the government of his country, directly or through freely chosen representatives. The will of the people shall be the basis of the authority of government; this will shall be expressed in periodic and genuine elections which shall be by universal and equal suffrage and shall be held by secret vote or by equivalent free voting procedures,” (The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, 1948). These two quotes substantiate that a possible solution for immigration is for the citizens to choose their own system of government, changing the monarchy into a democracy. Since this is a difficult task, the citizens could also demand that Bashar doesn’t take complete control, but lets the citizens make important decisions as well. Also, article 18 of the Human Rights says, “Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance,” (The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, 1948). This quote, along with the others, manifests that the ISIS group should not be allowed to force their religion into all citizens, since they are allowed to choose their own religion. In conclusion, a possible solution for this issue is for the Syrians to demand their rights to be defended along with higher authorities, such as the United Nations. However, this is not an easy movement, so a way that everyone can help for now is with the refugee crisis.

How can you help?
Two similar possible solutions for the Syrian refugee crisis are resettlement and humanitarian admission. Resettlement is when refugees are taken to live as permanent residents to another country that gives them their needs. Humanitarian admission is also when refugees are taken to other countries to live, yet this process is quicker and can be either permanent or temporary. The UNHCR asserts, “ UNHCR has encouraged the international community to show solidarity with countries hosting Syrian refugees in the region by offering opportunities for resettlement, humanitarian admission [...] . These interventions are critical for the most vulnerable refugees who are in urgent need of safety and protection,” (UNHCR, 2014). These solutions are being promoted by the United Nations Refugee Program and they state that they are, “ [...] working closely with resettlement and humanitarian admission countries to prioritize the most vulnerable, including women and girls at risk, survivors of violence and/or torture, refugees with medical needs or disabilities, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Intersex refugees at risk, vulnerable older adults, and refugees in need of family reunification” (UNHCR, 2014). This citation evinces that these two solutions benefit a variety of people with different experiences and sexual orientations and gives them a proper shelter. In conclusion, these two solutions are encouraging countries to take in more Syrian refugees so they can have what everyone needs.
