“Around 220,000 people have been killed and 12.8 million people are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance inside Syria” -Amnesty international, 2015
Immigration is the movement of people towards a country in which they are not native, and usually due to harsh conditions in their home country. The Syrian Civil War has caused plenty of immigration. Naina Bajekal, a Time magazine reporter, states, “The refugees come from Syria, from across Africa, from Afghanistan and other places,” (Bajekal, 2015). Essentially “Syria's turmoil began with protests against President Bashar al-Assad’s regime in March 2011. It crossed an important threshold a year and a half later, when the international Red Cross formally declared it a civil war,” (CBC News, 2014). Currently “families are struggling to survive inside Syria, or make a new home in neighboring countries. Others are risking their lives on the way to Europe, hoping to find acceptance and opportunity,” (Mercycorps, 2015). This means that the Syrians, who are forced to migrate, are leaving their families and important items behind, in order to survive. This issue has not only caused countless families to lose members and to be displaced in numerous societies, but it has caused thousands of Syrians to be in need of humanitarian and medical assistance.
