How can immigration be analyzed with socialization?
“Syria's turmoil began with Protests against President Bashar al-Assad’s regime in March 2011. It crossed an important threshold a year and a half later, when the international Red Cross formally declared it a civil war,” (CBC News 2014).
This quote can be explained by socialization since the Islamic extremists, that caused the turmoil, defended their beliefs. Since a young age, people are taught to protect their beliefs and to avoid being led by something they don’t agree upon. The Islamic religion promotes prosperity and peace but since Assad's reign is not based on this religion, the extremists decided to use violence. These extremists don’t consider the use of violence hazardous since they are defending their opinions. In conclusion, the lessons that the families teach children, have a negative effect since they can cause violence.
“Britain actually receives fewer asylum applications per head of population than the E.U. average, and Germany, France, Sweden and Italy all receive far more claims than the U.K. "We must push the British government to take its share of responsibility," says Emmanuel Agius, the deputy mayor of Calais,” (Bajekal 2015).
This quote can be explained by socialization. Since Britain is a strict county, plenty of parents teach their children not to help strangers. The Syrian refugees come to Britain seeking for a shelter and food but since the British don’t know them, they don’t provide them with the proper resources to survive. Meanwhile, the other countries have learned to be more welcoming and open to strangers. Therefore, they provide these necessities to the Syrian refugees. In conclusion, the lesson that children are taught about strangers can vary depending on the cultures and this lesson can either help or aggravate the refugee situation.

Uk's prime minister, david cameron, denies receiving more refugees in britain.
how can immigration be analyzed with functionalism?
“Most of the refugees work in low-wage food processing plants, in the hotel-motel industry, as cab drivers or other service-sector jobs. To make ends meet, they often supplement their income with government assistance such as food stamps, Medicaid and subsidized housing. A Congressional Research Office study, for instance, found that 74.2 percent of refugees in the U.S. make use of food stamps and nearly a quarter live in public housing,” (WND 2015).
This data shows functionalism. This is because the immigrants are helping various people in business. Business managers are always trying to employ workers that ask for a low amount of money. The refugees that are in need of food, water, shelter, and money accept these jobs even for low wages. This helps businesses expand without wasting plenty of money on their workers. Various countries are expanding their industries without splurging money on extra workers, the refugees in this case, that help enlarge businesses. The desperation of these refugees to get food, water or a shelter is gigantic. That desperation brings benefits to businesses in various societies since they are able to hire employees for a tiny amount of money.

how can immigration be analyzed with the conflict theory?
“Isis wants all Muslims to declare allegiance to its caliphate and the caliphate to rule all the world. Its more practical objectives are to survive and expand which it has so far succeeded in doing”, (Withnall, Romero, 2015). The cause for immigration is the need for ISIS to dominate the world, and have things done the way they want. This relates to the conflict theory, since it emphasizes on the social, political, or material inequality of a social group. Since ISIS is one of the more powerful groups on society, they use their authority to take advantage of the less dominant groups. As a consequence, a civil war has started, and they’re all fighting for the same thing- power. Conflict theory might also explain this quote because of the poverty cycle. People with less resources aren’t able to afford essential everyday things, and therefore are forced to migrate to the Northern countries, whereas the people with more abundance, are able to buy the proper security and weaponry to defend and protect themselves from the violence and war. |
